The Problem

A-Met Metrology Ltd Hereford was contacted by Chris Coe, Managing Director of Central Engineering Ltd Hereford to assist in reproducing a component they had received a task from one of their clients to replicate.

The component in question was a gearbox housing which needed to be replicated in 3D format to which Central Engineering used to create a Digital data set to enable the component to be reverse engineered for manufacture on one of their CNC machining centres.

The Solution

A-Met Metrology utilised their DEA Global CMM to perform this request by measuring all key critical features using a Tesa Touch probe system.

A-Met Metrology then created a 3D CAD Feature based cloud for Central Engineering to utilise their design skills to replicate the measurement data into a full 3D CAD model to enable the programming of one of their CNC machining centres to create the workpiece.

Central Engineering then programmed one of their fleet of high precision CNC machining Centres to produce this component in only 6 hours!

The Results

The result was fantastic resulting in a fully machined accurate gearbox housing to the delight of their customer.

The whole measurement process was completed rapidly with the complete turnaround from collection of workpiece, programming the CMM and creating the measurement reports achieved within 24 hours.
